Why this training matters

Most people who die by suicide gave someone a signal first

ASIST teaches a practical, evidence based framework for recognizing when someone may be having thoughts of suicide, talking with them directly, and building an immediate safety plan together.

Developed by LivingWorks, ASIST has been used by more than two million people worldwide. It is not a lecture. Two full days are spent practicing the conversation itself, because knowing what to say matters far less than having already said it once before it counts.

Participants leave able to ask about suicide plainly, to listen without deflecting, and to work with a person at risk on a plan that keeps them safe for now and connects them to longer term support.

Who should attend

Anyone 16 or older who wants to be ready to help

No clinical background is required, and none is assumed. The training is built for the people who are actually present when someone is struggling, which is rarely a clinician. It does ask for a real commitment: two full days, 9 AM to 5 PM, both of them.

  • Clinicians and crisis workers
  • Teachers, school staff, and coaches
  • Faith leaders and community leaders
  • First responders
  • Parents, family members, and caring neighbors

Trainers: Meagan MacGregor and Mark Margolis, Howard Center.
